Barcelona Beaches

A city with a beach...you get the best of both worlds in Barcelona and here´s my pick of the best.

For me the best beach in the city is right beside the W hotel to the far right of Barceloneta beach. It´s less busy as people tend to stop at Barceloneta beach, but if you keep walking to the right you´ll find a quieter beach with a choice of cool beach bars and restaurants. This is also a great spot for trying paddle-surfing, although having tried it myself the idea of what you´ll look like and what you actually look like is VERY different! but fun.

Barceloneta beach - clean but busy
Barceloneta beach is the tourist beach of choice in Barcelona purely because it´s the closest to the city centre and therefore easiest to access either walking or by metro (Barceloneta stop). Although it is the busiest beach it still maintains a good level of cleanliness and has some cool little beach bars when you need to cool off with a Fanta Limon. Having said this, in the summer months you can get slightly annoyed by the constant onslaught of salesmen shouting "coca cola...agua...cerveza!" and it´s not the kind of place you can leave your bag to have a dip in the sea.

Beautiful Sitges - worth the day trip

If you´re looking for a beautiful fine sandy beach with clear warm water then take the train to the pretty seaside town of Sitges (approx. 30 mins & 7 euros by train). This for me is the perfect spot to spend the day on a sunbed and read a book and relax in the sun. There are plenty of places to have lunch and also some little beach bars directly on the sand. For more peace and less people, head to the right towards Terramar hotel.
